Interview with Amr Zaki English Premier League “one year wonder”
The Premier League has been graced by several of the world’s finest players since its inception in 1992.
Not too much was known about the Egyptian striker when he joined Wigan from Zamalek on a season-long loan, but that quickly changed after an astonishing start to his Premier League career.
He scored five goals in his first six matches and then struck a brace – including an excellent volley – against Liverpool at Anfield. There were links to several of Europe’s top clubs, including Real Madrid, but the hype died as quickly as the goals.
Zaki netted only three more times over the course of the season and a number of off-field issues resulted in Steve Bruce calling the forward the most “unprofessional” player he had ever worked with.
Unsurprisingly, Wigan decided not to sign Zaki at the end of his loan and he returned to Zamalek.
