Egypt’s coach names 14 players from the Egyptian League
Egypt coach Hossam El-Badry named on Tuesday seven players from CAF Confederation Cup finalists Pyramids FC in a preliminary squad made up of local-based players ahead of a double header against Togo in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Pharaohs will host Togo in their third Group G game of the qualifiers on 14 November before facing them away three days later.

The players chosen from Pyramids include goalkeeper El-Mahdi Soliman, veteran playmaker Abdallah El-Said, winger Mohamed Farouk and newly-signed schemer Ramadan Sobhi. The Emirati-owned team lost 1-0 to Morocco’s RS Berkane in the Confederation Cup final on Sunday.
Other fresh faces include Talae El-Geish keeper Mohamed Bassam, Enppi midfielder Mohamed Sherif, Gouna midfielder Akram Tawfik and Smouha’s left-back Ahmed Aboul-Fotouh.
Egypt will begin their training camp on 3 November, with Ahly and Zamalek players, along with the five foreign-based footballers called up earlier, scheduled to link up with their teammates six days later.
“We called up our local-based players to keep them fit as we are worried any of Ahly, Zamalek or the foreign-based players could get injured,” El-Badry said on the Egyptian Football Association’s Facebook page.
Under the guidance of El-Badry, Egypt were held to draws by minnows Kenya and Comoros in their opening qualifying games for the African Cup of Nations, which was postponed to January 2022 instead of January 2021.
