Al Ahly beat Misr Lel Makkasa 3-1 in the opening fixture of the Egyptian Premier League at Al Ahly Stadium.
The Red scored the first goal five minutes after the start of the match, through Ali Maaloul, from a penalty kick, before Marwan Hamdy equalized for a header in the 41st minute for Al-Makassa.

“I am so glad to win our first game in the new season, but tonight’s result did not reflect our performance in the match. We missed several scoring chances and we need to be more focused to be ready for the upcoming challenges.”
“Misr Lel Makkasa is a very good team and they have a fantastic coach. They play good football and they were tough opponents in the match.”
“The game’s starting XI included new faces, and they need more time to adapt together. Sherif played well tonight and scored a goal, but unfortunately, it was disallowed. But I will watch it again to see if it was offside or not.”
“We did not start with Dieng as he was sidelined for a while after testing positive for COVID-19. We have many fantastic midfielders such as Hamdy Fathy and Amr El Soulia, but we can not start the matches with all of them.”
