The reward for the African champions is a semi-final on Monday against tournament favorites and Uefa Champions League winners Bayern Munich.

Success came as a huge relief for an Egyptian outfit coached by South African Pitso Mosimane as they achieved only one top-three finish in five previous Club World Cup appearances.

It was also a joyful occasion for Mosimane, who lost both matches when he took the previous club, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, to the 2016 edition.

Pitso has nothing to lose:

Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has assured that the team has nothing to lose when they face European Champions Bayern Munich at the FIFA Club World Cup semifinal.

“Who are we to play against Bayern Munich? A big team who defeated Barcelona 8-2.”

“What should I expect against Bayern? We have nothing to lose against them as we will play for entertainment,” he said after the game.

“I know that the game against Bayern will be very tough, but I dream of realizing an achievement against the European champions,” Taher Mohamed told BeIN Sports after the game.

Chairman of Bayern Munich and club legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has warned his side against complacency when they face Al Ahly.

Despite being clear favourites for the encounter and the title, club legend and chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stressed that they can’t underrate ‘Club of the Century’ Al Ahly.

“The winner of the tournament will receive $5M, which is pleasant,” Rummenigge told Sport1.

“But I warn against underestimating the opponents. Next Monday, after a two-day break and a long journey, we have the semi-finals.” the Bayern chairman added. “Al Ahly is an extremely traditional club with over 30 million fans alone in Egypt.”

“They were voted “Club of the Century” by the Continental Federation,” he said. “We are very much looking forward to this encounter and will face them with the utmost respect and appreciation

“Our coach will analyze Al Ahly because you can’t be arrogant, even though we’re favorites in the game.” he said. “We don’t want to stumble, but rather approach every game seriously.
