Chances were few and far in between in the opening half with Ahmed Tawfik seeing his shot sail straight to the keeper’s arms early on while the home side were denied by a brilliant save from Sherif Ekramy who did well to parry away a point-blank shot from Shiza Kichuya in the 27th minute.
In the second half, both teams picked up in piling the pressure and Namungo had a go at goal in the 56th minute when Stephein Sey hit one from distance but it was wide off target. In the 66th minute, the impressive Sobhy picked out Tawfik with a sliced pass between the defense, but the midfielder’s shot was wide.
The visitors opened the lead in the 71st minute when Sobhy converted from the penalty spot after substitute Mohamed Salama was axed inside the box by Kalos Kirenge.
The goal had been coming for Sobhy who had been the most exciting to watch the entire game and just three minutes earlier, he had rattled the crossbar with a brilliant shot inside the box on the volley.
Namungo who lost their opening match away in Casablanca to Raja Club Athletic seemed to have lost their fight after going a goal down and it was Pyramids who brightened up and played with more urgency.
They were rewarded with a second goal six minutes from time when Gaber scored with a brilliant shot that went into the roof of the next after playing a little one-two change of passes with Faruk Mohamed inside the box.
