Egypt’s Pyramids FC are confident they can make it to the African Confederation Cup final for a second straight season despite producing another disappointing show in a 0-0 draw with Raja in the semi-final first leg.
Pyramids face Raja in Casablanca in the second leg on Sunday, hoping to snap a three-match winless run against the Moroccan side as they target their first-ever title.
The big-spending Emirati-owned club struggled to create chances in the home leg, with Raja unlucky not to snatch an away victory after spurning a couple of goal-scoring opportunities.
However, Pyramids believe they can excel this time around and beat Raja at their own yard in Casablanca.
“I’m very optimistic that we will reach the final for a second consecutive season, especially given the high morale of the players,” Pyramids’ veteran playmaker Abdallah El-Said told the pre-match news conference.
“We are eager to realize our dream for coronation especially after coming so close last year. The players are determined to do their best and qualify for the final.”
The odds are stacked against Pyramids, who on current form do not look like a team who can match the powerful Raja.
Pyramids’ defence has been committing some disastrous errors lately, forcing Argentinean coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena to reshuffle his central defensive pair in the first leg.
Their attack has been misfiring too as they endure a poor run in the Egyptian Premier League.
“We are missing some players because of injuries suffered due to fixture congestion, but I trust our crop,” Arruabarrena said.
