By securing a crucial 3-0 win over Pharco FC, Al Ahly regained their position at the top of the Egyptian Premier League table, moving closer to claiming their 43rd league title.
After being sidelined for six weeks due to a muscle injury, defender Mahmoud Metwalli made a triumphant return to the pitch for Al-Ahly. In the 19th minute, he headed in the first goal for his team after receiving a brilliant long pass from left-back Ali Maaloul during a free kick.
Before halftime, striker Mohamed Sherif doubled the lead with a sharp assist from in-form winger Hussein El-Shahat.
In the closing minutes of the game, Maaloul sealed the victory for the hosts with a penalty kick, securing a 3-0 win for Al-Ahly at the Cairo International Stadium.
Despite Pharco FC coach Tarek El-Ashri’s efforts to turn the game around by making substitutions, Al-Ahly’s defense remained strong and held onto their clean sheet.
Winger El-Shahat missed a chance to further extend the lead in the 75th minute when his attempt was denied by Pharco FC defender Jefferson Encada.
With this victory, Al-Ahly has taken the lead in the league table with 50 points, putting them in a strong position ahead of Future FC, who have played three more matches.
After securing their place in the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League earlier this month and winning their 38th Egypt Cup title last week, the Red Devils appear to be in good form and high spirits.
Ahly coach Marcel Koller expressed concern when Mahmoud Metwalli sustained a leg injury just two minutes before the final whistle.
Next up, the team will face Smouha in the 26th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League on Monday at the Borg El-Arab Stadium.
