Ahly Secures Dominant 2-0 Win Against Ittihad of Alexandria, Tightening Grip on Egyptian Premier League Title Race.
In the 21st matchday game at Borg El-Arab stadium on Saturday, the postponed match saw Ahly’s Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul open the scoring with a penalty kick just ten minutes into the game.
Shortly after, Ahly’s winger Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’ Abdel-Moneim increased the lead in the 13th minute with a swift goal, brilliantly assisted by South African winger Percy Tau inside the penalty area.
The victory propels the Red Devils to the top of the table with 75 points, comfortably eight points ahead of second-placed Pyramids FC, who have played two additional matches.
As the recently crowned champions of the African Champions League, Ahly now require only three points from a potential 24 to secure their 43rd Egyptian League title.
On the other hand, Ittihad of Alexandria’s loss in this match prevented them from climbing up the table, leaving them in 8th place with 42 points after participating in 31 matches thus far.
Ahly’s next match will be against their arch-rivals, Zamalek, in a postponed game from matchday 31 on Thursday.
