Egypt’s captain Mohamed Salah celebrated his 100th appearance for the Egyptian national team by leading them to a commanding 4-0 win over Botswana in an away Nations Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, who made his international debut against Sierra Leone in September 2011, marked his milestone day by scoring Egypt’s third goal in the 56th minute, bringing his total to 56 goals for the Pharaohs.
Winger Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan struck twice, netting in the 4th and 29th minutes, while substitute Mostafa Fathy sealed the 4-0 victory with a fourth goal in injury time.
The victory allowed Egypt to stay atop their group with a perfect six points, following their earlier win over Cape Verde in the group opener on Friday. They now sit three points ahead of Mauritania, who are set to face Cape Verde later on Tuesday.
