The Pharaohs secure a Spot in the 2025 AFCON – VIDEO

Ibrahim Adel delivered a stunning highlight-reel moment, launching a jaw-dropping long-range strike from inside his own half to seal Egypt’s 1-0 away victory over Mauritania in the AFCON qualifiers. A goal for the ages, it lifted Egypt to a crucial win and had fans buzzing!

Pyramids FC winger Ibrahim Adel saw goalkeeper Mamadou Diop off his line and took his chance, unleashing a stunning 55-yard rocket that soared over Diop and into the net in the 85th minute. A moment of pure brilliance!

The victory clinches the Pharaohs’ record-extending 27th AFCON appearance, as they comfortably lead Group C with 12 points, ahead of Botswana (6 points), and Cape Verde and Mauritania (3 points each).

Coach Hossam Hassan shuffled his lineup, deploying a 3-4-3 formation and making four changes due to the absence of several key players.

Egypt played cautiously, leaning on counter-attacks. However, they struggled to create clear chances, with Mohamed Hamdy and Osama Faisal unable to seriously challenge the Mauritanian keeper.

Mauritania’s best chance came in the 60th minute when Aboubakary Koita unleashed a shot from inside the box, but Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed El Shennawy made a brilliant save to preserve his clean sheet.

Adel, subbed on in the 83rd minute for Faisal, made an immediate impact, netting the winner with his first touch to secure Egypt’s fourth straight victory in the qualifiers.

The seven-time African champions will wrap up their AFCON qualifying campaign in November with matches against Cape Verde in Praia on the 11th and Botswana in Cairo on the 19th.
