A decade after leaving the club, Al Ahly has revealed that they’ve signed their former star winger, Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan, on a five-year contract from Turkish club Trabzonspor.
On Monday, Cairo’s powerhouse, Al Ahly, announced they’ve struck a deal with Trabzonspor to bring back Egyptian international Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan starting in July with the opening of the summer transfer window. The financial terms of the agreement were not made public.
Currently on loan at Al Rayyan in Qatar, the 30-year-old will be available for Al Ahly’s participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled from June 14 to July 13 in the United States.
The dynamic winger is a key player for Egypt’s national team, the Pharaohs, with 18 goals in 74 appearances to date.
He played a role in Egypt’s qualification for the 2018 World Cup, marking their first appearance in 30 years, and was part of the squad that made it to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in both 2017 and 2023.
Trezeguet, a graduate of Al Ahly’s youth academy, embarked on his European career in the summer of 2015 when he signed with Belgian club Anderlecht.
He later moved to play for Premier League team Aston Villa and several Turkish clubs including Kasimpasa, Basaksehir, and Trabzonspor.
Since joining Trabzonspor in the summer of 2022, Trezeguet impressed with 25 goals and 16 assists in 76 matches across all competitions.
His contract with Trabzonspor was due to expire in the summer of 2026.
Trezeguet had always expressed a desire to conclude his football career at his childhood club, and that dream has now been realized.
