Michel returns to Zamalek

Former France coach Henri Michel has returned to Egypt for another spell in charge of local giants Zamalek.

He takes over from Swiss coach Michel Decastel, who was sacked following the club’s indifferent start to the new season.

“Michel is the new Zamalek coach. He will be assisted by Abdul-Halim Ali,” spokesman Sabri Serag said.

Ali, who retired at the end of last season, is the team’s all-time top scorer.

Michel is charged with reviving the fortunes of the club after a poor start to the new season.

Zamalek have recorded just four points from their first three games in the country’s top-flight league.

Michel, 61, led France to third place at the 1986 World Cup and has managed several national teams in Africa.

He was on the verge of winning the Egyptian Cup in his first stint at Zamalek but his side suffered a dramatic 4-3 defeat against arch-rivals Ahly in the final in 2007.
