Mohamed Zidan may get the playmaking role in Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against Bochum on Sunday due to shortage of options in midfield, German daily Bild reported.
Hungary international Tamas Hajnal faces four months on the sidelines after picking up a serious ankle injury.
Fellow midfielders Tinga and Sebastian Kehl are also unavailable due to injuries.
Bild said on Thursday that Egyptian striker Zidan, who usually partners Argentinean striker Lucas Barrios upfront, is one of four players who could be assigned the playmaking responsibilities.
“I do not care about my position; the most important thing is to play,” the 27-year-old commented.
Nuri Sahin, Kevin Grosskreutz and Markus Feulner are the other contenders for the playmaker position, Bild added.
Zidan, who was quoted on Wednesday as saying he wanted to leave the Bundesliga in search of a new challenge, scored just one league goal so far this season.
Egypt coach Hassan Shehata recently gave him the green light to return to the national team’s fold ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifier at home to Algeria next month.
Zidan missed out on Egypt’s two successive wins over Rwanda and Zambia after skipping a friendly game with Guinea in August.
