Egypt forward Mohamed Zidan apologized for his misconduct during the Pharaohs’ 2-0 win over Mozambique in the African Cup of Nations.
The 28-year-old was substituted in the second half of the game, but on his way to the dugout he refused to shake Ahmed Eid’s hand and snubbed coach Hassan Shehata.
Zidan seemed to be provoked by the substitution, however; the Borussia Dortmund man stressed that he was only angry at himself.
“I wasn’t cross because of the substitution, I was just dissatisfied with my performance,” he told FilGoal.com.
“I have never got angry for making way for another player.
“I was sick and didn’t produce a good display against Mozambique, that’s why I wasn’t happy.
“I was keen to maintain form with Dortmund in order to guarantee a spot in the national team, and I’m taking our Nations Cup campaign quite seriously.
“I only realized that I didn’t shake Eid’s hand when I watched a video of the game.”
