Al Ahly are one of four African clubs at the tournament and have played in 10 previous editions of the competition, albeit across entirely different formats than these finals. They are undoubtedly the most decorated club side in African football, winning a record 12 CAF Champions League titles and 44 Egyptian top-flight league titles.

Inter Miami will need to keep a close eye on Emam Ashour, the Egyptian Premier League’s top scorer for the 2024–25 season with 13 goals. Ashour also led the league in assists with seven, underlining his all-around threat in the final third.

Veteran midfielder Hussein El Shahat could also feature for José Riveiro’s team. The 32-year-old holds the record for most appearances in the previous format of the FIFA Club World Cup, having played 17 matches—four with Al Ain and 13 with current club Al Ahly.

With Hard Rock Stadium located just over 20 miles south of Inter Miami’s home ground, the MLS side is expected to enjoy strong support, with their fans likely outnumbering those of the North African champions. Much of that crowd will be eager to watch Lionel Messi, who is expected to start up front alongside fellow veteran Luis Suárez.

This marks Messi’s fourth FIFA Club World Cup appearance, having won the title in each of his previous three tournaments (2009, 2011, and 2015), during which he scored five goals in five matches.

Head coach Javier Mascherano will be counting on Messi to bring his MLS form into the global spotlight. The Argentine star has recorded more goal involvements than any other player in the tournament field this season—15 in total, with 10 goals and five assists.
