Zamalek vs Al Ahly | Cairo Derby Live on Nile Sports

Al Ahly

Ahly right-back Ahmed Ali was excluded from the Red Devils’ squad for Wednesday’s game against Zamalek in the Egyptian Cup round of 16.

Ali, who was promoted to a first-teamer last summer, featured quite frequently in the past season but barely lived up to expectations.

Promising youngster Afroto was also omitted.

Defender Sherif Abdul-Fadil proved to be effective while playing as a right back. He made the squad and is widely expected to be deployed as a wide man.

Combative midfielder Ahmed Fathi, who has just recuperated from a groin injury, was also included in the 20-man list.

Left winger Sayed Moawad was named for the first time in weeks as he was resting along with Ahli’s key players after their league triumph.

Ahli’s squad:

Goalkeepers: Sherif Ekrami, Ahmed Adel.

Defenders: Wael Gomaa, Ahmed Al-Sayed, Sherif Abdul-Fadil, Saad Al-Din Samir, Sayed Moawad, Gilberto.

Midfielders: Mohamed Barakat, Ahmed Fathi, Ahmed Hassan, Hossam Ashour, Shehab Al-Din, Mostafa Shebeita, Abdullah Farouk, Ahmed Shokri, Mohamed Abou-Treika.

Strikers: Mohamed Fadl, Ahmed Belal, Francis Doe.

Zamalek

Zamalek coach Hossam Hassan named Amr Zaki in his squad for Wednesday’s Egyptian Cup match with Ahli, although the robust striker is still ineligible to feature for the White Knights in competitive games.

Zaki has recently ended his loan deal with Hull City and the English side are yet to send him his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

The 27-year-old will be able to feature in the Cairo derby only if he receives his ITC within the next few hours.

Should Zaki be unavailable, Ahmed Gaafar will be the only striker in Zamalek’s squad as Hassan opted not to choose Sherif Ashraf.

Highly-rated coach Hassan insisted on naming 21 players for the game. He ought to omit three of them before the eagerly-awaited match.

Zamalek beat Fayoum 1-0 while Ahli downed Nabaroh 3-0 in the cup round of 32 to set up the anticipated meeting.

Zamalek’s squad:

Goalkeepers: Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed, Mohamed Abdul-Monsef.

Defenders: Amr Adel, Mahmoud Fathallah, Amr Al-Safti, Ahmed Magdi, Mohamed Abdul-Shafi, Ahmed Ghanem, Sabri Rahil, Amr Gaber.

Midfielders: Ahmed Abdul-Raouf, Ibrahim Salah, Hassan Mostafa, Hani Saied, Remi Adiko, Shikabala, Alaa Ali, Hussein Yasser, Mohamed Ibrahim.
