Al Ahly claimed their second Egyptian Premier League win in four matches after an easy 2-0 victory over Ittihad of Alexandria at the Egyptian Army Stadium in Borg El Arab on Friday.
Manuel Jose reverted back to the 3-5-2 formation for the first time this season, with teenager Rami Rabiea leading the line in defense.
Abdallah El-Saied scored his maiden Ahly goal in the first half to put his side in front before striker Emad Meteb wrapped up the win eight minutes past the hour mark.
The 86,000-seat Egyptian Army Stadium, the second biggest in Africa, has hosted its second game since it was officially opened in 2007. The first match to be held at the stadium was the 2009 U-20 World Cup opener between Egypt and Trinidad and Tobago.
The win moved Ahly, who were held to two successive draws by Gouna and Petrojet, to the league’s summit with eight points. Ittihad, who survived relegation last season following a controversial EFA decision, are ninth on five points.
