The EFA (Egyptian Football Association) lodged an official request with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to postpone their upcoming African qualifier match against Central Africa – slated for 29 February in Bangui – in light of ongoing political turbulence in Egypt.
All sporting activities in Egypt were indefinitely suspended following last week’s football violence between rival fans in Port Said, which left more than 70 dead and hundreds injured.
The CAF is expected to announce its decision on the matter on Saturday following a meeting in Gabon. The CAF is also expected to discuss the role of Egyptian clubs in the African competition given current political circumstances.
