Al Ahly, better known as The Red Devils, Ajax Amsterdam 1-0 this Friday in UAE for Hossam Ghaly retirement match.
Ghaly, who won three Egyptian league titles, two Egyptian Cup titles and two African Champions League titles with Ahly, also recalled memories of his successful journey in Europe with Feyenoord, Tottenham Hotspur, Derby County and Lierse, before settling down at his boyhood club in 2014.
“Ghaly deserves this well-organised ceremony. He is one of the club’s icons. I have known him since he was a little kid. He is one of the best to wear the Ahly jersey,” said Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry.
Ghaly was substituted with 14 minutes remaining, to a standing ovation.
The 36-year-old is a fan favourite whose fighting spirit was always lauded by Ahly’s demanding supporters.
Ahly scored the winner with seven minutes remaining when new signing Salah Mohsen chested down a long ball and sent a superb low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
