The young Pharaohs can ill-afford another loss in Group E after surrendering their lead to slump to a 2-1 defeat by Chile in their opening game on Sunday.
They were criticized for an unusual shaky defence and profligacy upfront, with lone striker Ahmed Hassan “Kouka” once again failing to impress.
The major changes, however, will be in midfield where Saleh Gomaa, who started on the bench against Chile, will replace Ahmed Refaat. Mahmoud Hamad and Mahmoud Wahid will also play instead of Ahmed Samir and Hossam Ghaly respectively.
Iraq on the other hand will no doubt be riding the wave into a daunting clash with African champions Egypt. They had looked down and out with 15 minutes to go on 23 June but another shock result would leave them with every chance of progressing, though they have never beaten Egypt at any level. The north Africans represent tough opposition, having dominated against Chile for large swathes of the game. Having reached the knockout stages four times since the turn of the millennium, they are seasoned competitors at this level.
