Egypt 3-0 Uganda Friendly Match Review August 14th 2013
Egypt crushed Uganda 3-0 in a friendly game that went ahead despite unrest in the country after police violently broke up two Muslim Brotherhood sit-ins in Cairo on Wednesday.
The match took place in the Red Sea resort of El-Gouna, 430 kilometers from Cairo, amid violence in several governorates that has left at least 150 killed. The low-key match was not aired on television.
Striker Ahmed Hassan ‘Koka’, who plays for Rio Ave in Portugal, opened the scoring after 20 minutes and in-form forward Mohamed Salah added the second on the hour mark.
Basel’s Salah, who is one of Egypt’s key players, took his tally to 15 goals in 23 appearances with the Pharaohs.
Former Zamalek midfielder Ibrahim Salah put the icing on the cake with seven minutes remaining as Egypt seek to improve their FIFA ranking ahead of the 16 September draw for the World Cup qualifying play-off.
Egypt secured their place in the final qualifying round after ensuring they would finish on top of Group G with one game to spare. They host Guinea in their last group match next month.
