El-Gabbas joins English League One side Swindon
English League One side Swindon Town have completed the signing of Egyptian forward Mohamed El-Gabbas until January 2014 with an option to extend the deal for 18 months.
El-Gabbas was out of contract after ending a four-year spell with Belgian side Lierse in the summer.
He was keen to return to England where he enjoyed a stint at Newcastle’s youth academy, before returning to Egypt after failing to obtain a work permit to stay in England.
The 25-year-old’s representative claimed that his client was on the radar of a number of English Premier League and Championship clubs.
“It’s a nice town, it’s a family club where everyone knows each other,” El-Gabbas told Swindon Town’s official website on Saturday.
“I’ve heard about the club’s history before I came. They’re trying to get to the Championship – this is a good ambition and I hope I can help them,” he added.
