Al Ahly trashed Maqassa 4-1 in a postponed match in the Egyptian Premier League.
The Reds urgently needed the win as their qualification for the final mini-league phase of the domestic competition was under serious threat.
The victory, their first in four matches, also comes as reconciliation for the club’s fans – angry after Ahly’s recent elimination from the African Champions league, which was then followed with a disappointing 1-1 draw with ENPPI in the Premier League.
Ahly climbed to second place in Group A with 23 points, narrowing the gap with leaders Smouha to only three points.
