The history of rivalry between Ahly and Etoile started just nine years ago, with the North African rivals meeting five times since.
It all started in the two-legged 2005 Champions League final that saw the Cairo giants clinch the title following a 3-0 aggregate victory.
But the Tunisians were able to avenge their title loss two years later – pulling off an impressive 3-1 aggregate win following a dramatic finale in Cairo.
Their other encounter was in the 2007 African Super Cup, which was won by Ahly following a penalty shootout victory in Addis Ababa.
Today’s match will be staged at the 30,000-seater Stade Olympique, but a limited number of 8500 fans will only be allowed in due to lingering security concerns in the neighbouring Arab nation.
