Egypt suffered a disappointing loss to Qatar in the bronze medal game of the FIFA Arab Cup on Saturday at 974 Stadium.
After 120 minutes of a goalless draw, The Pharaohs missed two penalty kicks to lose the game against Qatar.
Mohamed Magdy Afsha, who participated in the game as a substitute and scored one of Egypt’s penalty kicks, revealed his emotions after the match. “We were unlucky today and we failed to find the target despite the clear chances that we had.” Afsha said.
Egypt finished their participation in the competition in fourth place after two straight losses against Tunisia and Qatar.
Carlos Queiroz, the team’s head coach, believes that the team has achieved the target from participating in the FIFA Arab Cup.
“I am happy with our participation in the competition. We achieved the target and gave the opportunity to many youngsters. There are a lot of positive outcomes and I would like to thanks my players for their efforts throughout the campaign.” Queiroz said.
The Pharaohs have a more important mission in less than a month when hey head to Cameroon in January for the Africa Cup of Nations.
