The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) on Thursday temporarily suspended Ahly’s new signing Moemen Zakareya and Zamalek duo Maarouf Youssef and Khaled Qamar until the governing body’s board of directors convenes on Sunday.
The three players are accused by the Cairo rivals of signing for two clubs at the same time as a fresh battle erupts between Egypt’s most successful outfits.
Zakareya made a surprise move to Ahly last week after Zamalek failed to make his loan deal permanent.
He left his parent club ENPPI to join Ahly on a five-year deal after ending an 18-month spell with Zamalek, where he scored seven goals in the Egyptian League to lie on top of the team’s scorers chart after 15 matches.
Zamalek filed a complaint against the player on Sunday, claiming that he has already penned a deal with them before making a move to the cross-town foes.
Ahly launched a similar complaint against Zamalek’s duo Maarouf Youssef of Nigeria and striker Khaled Qamar, who both joined the White Knights from Ittihad El-Shorta last summer.
Qamar appeared to admit that he had signed for Ahly before joining Zamalek during a side-pitch interview on Wednesday following his side’s 1-0 league win over Arab Contractors.
The Player affairs’ committee examined the two cases during its meeting on Thursday and decided to suspend the three players until the EFA board convenes on Sunday to decide their fate.
