Two great wins for CairogiantsAl Ahly & Zamalek last night in the Egyptian Premier league.

Zamalek slamed Petrojet 2-0 last in the Egyptian Premier League, Al Ahly trashed Aswan 4-Zero.

An outstanding brace from midfielder Mohamed Ibrahim gave Zamalek their fourth straight Egyptian League win, beating Petrojet 2-0 and trailing behind leaders and arch-rivals Ahly.

Ibrahim, who looks to have won the confidence of recently-appointed manager Mohamed Helmi, scored on either side of the interval in one-on-one situations for his first Zamalek goals since his return from an unsuccessful tenure at Portugal’s Maritimo.

This is the third win in a row for Helmi, who replaced Scottish manager Alex McLeish at the helm earlier this month, with Zamalek currently in second place with 54 points.

The victory took Zamalek within five points of leaders Ahly, who could well restore their eight-point gap should they triumph over Aswan later in the day.

Meanwhile, Petrojet are in fifth place with 38 points.

Al Ahly trashed Aswan 4-0

Al Ahly convincingly bounced back from last week’s shock 1-0 defeat to Wadi Degla to thrash Aswan 4-0 in the Egyptian league at Aswan Stadium on Thursday.

Having entered the game five points ahead of second-placed and arch-foes Zamalek who beat Petrojet 2-0 earlier on the day, Ahly were burdened with restoring their eight-point advantage at Aswan which they eventually did.

Three first-half goals from center-back Rami Rabia, striker Malick Evouna and midfielder Abdallah El-Said within less than 10 minutes suggested Ahly were cruising towards a vital victory in their pursuit of the league title.

Winger Moemen Zakareya then added the fourth on 71 minutes in an otherwise dreary second-half to wrap up the win and reach their 62nd point of the campaign.
