Al Masry train at their home stadium for the first time in 5 years | VIDEO

Port Said-based club Al Masry have trained at their home stadium for the first time since a riot lead to the death of more than 74 Al Ahly fans in February 2012.

However Al Masry are still not allowed to host competitive matches.

On Wednesday several thousand Masry fans watched their team train for their upcoming Confederation Cup play-off.

That game against Uganda’s KCCA will be played 85 km away in Ismailia where the Al-Masry has been playing and training.

Wednesday’s training started with a moment of silence for the fans who died and as doves of peace were also released.

The clashes followed a match between the al-Ahly and al-Masry clubs in February of that year, and left 74 football fans dead.

Egypt’s worst-ever football disaster – began after a top-league game at the stadium.

  • 74 people killed in Port Said stadium on 2 February 2012
  • Clashes broke out between rival fans of clubs al-Masry and al-Ahly
  • Fans flooded on to pitch attacking al-Ahly players and fans as match ended
