Al Ahly will face Atletico Madrid on December 30th 2017 in Egypt
Cairo giants Ahly have reached an agreement with Spanish side Atletico Madrid to play a friendly at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium on 30 December under the slogan “Peace against Terrorism.”
Ahly are seeking to stress the role of sports institutions in supporting the country while it faces various challenges, the Reds said on their official website on Monday.
Egypt’s security forces have been fighting an Islamist insurgency based in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula, which has gained pace since the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi. The last major attack took place in Arish last month, killing over 300 worshippers during Friday’s prayers.
Egyptian champions Ahly said Atletico would come to Egypt with their full squad.
The Rojiblancos visited Egypt in November 2011 when they beat Zamalek 4-1 in a friendly as part of the latter club’s centennial celebrations.
