Egyptian Defender Ali Gabr wanted in West Brom

West Bromwhich Albion are interested in signing Ahmed Hegazis Egypt teammate Ali Gabr on a six-month loan deal.

Gabr, who plays for Cairos ailing giants Zamalek, formed a solid partnership with Hegazi at the heart of Egypts four-man back-line during the teams run to the African Cup of Nations final in February 2017.

He has also been one of Zamaleks key players since joining from Alexandria-based club Ittihad in the summer of 2014, helping them win a rare domestic double in 2015 and the Egypt Cup title in 2016.

Egyptian media said West Brom have tabled a 300,000 offer to sign Gabr, 31, until the end of the season as they fight against relegation in the elite English Premier League.

But Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour told Egyptian sports website FilGoal.com he was not ready to do business for less than 700,000.

He also set a 4 million price tag to sell the towering defender if West Brom have plans to sign him on a permanent basis.

Hegazi has been a regular member of West Broms starting line-up since joining last summer from Zamaleks Cairo rivals Ahly on a season-long loan deal.

Last month, The Baggies exercised an option to tie him down to a five-year contract ending in 2022.

Gabr has made 18 international appearances since making his debut with Egypt in 2014. He was part of the Pharaohs side that reached the 2018 World Cup in Russia after a 28-year absence.
