A look back at Sergio Aguero’s 11 Premier League hat-tricks
He just doesn’t stop, does he?
Sergio Aguero demonstrated his world-class ability once more, as he equaled Alan Shearer’s record of 11 Premier League hat-tricks.
The Argentine striker put Chelsea to the sword with a second-successive treble in the 6-0 demolition job on Sunday.
Here, we take a look back through his stunning haul but before we do, make sure you check out the UEFA Champions League winner odds right here.
Wigan Athletic 2011
It didn’t take Aguero long to score his first treble in City colors, putting Wigan Athletic to the sword in just his third start for the club. All three strikes were scored via Aguero’s right foot, with the pick of the goals being his hat-trick strike after brilliant work from David Silva.
Tottenham Hotspur 2014
Although it took Aguero another three seasons to record his second hat-trick, it was well worth the wait. Tottenham Hotspur fans will tell you differently, as the Argentine superstar tore the North Londoners apart as he scored all four goals in a 4-1 win. The haul included two penalties but the pick of the goals was Aguero’s first, cutting in from the right and finishing with aplomb.
Queens Park Rangers 2015
Queens Park Rangers relegation was confirmed via the brilliance of Aguero, who scored three of his side’s six goals in a 6-0 trouncing. His first was rather fortunate, scoring after a rebound fell his way and he dinked over Rob Green. The second came after a defensive error saw Aguero slot past Green whilst one-on-one, and he ensured the match ball was coming home with him when he scored from the spot late on.
Newcastle United 2015
Arguably Aguero’s finest performance came against Newcastle United in 2015, scoring five goals in a blistering 20-minute spell. Aguero even managed to complete a perfect hat-trick in just eight minutes! The pick of his five goals was the hat-trick strike itself, sending an exquisite chip over the head of Tim Krul. Kevin De Bruyne scored the other in a 6-1 demolition of the Magpies.
Chelsea 2016
Aguero’s second hat-trick against the Premier League’s top six came in a resounding 3-0 victory at Chelsea, whereby the Blues defence simply had no answer for the Argentine’s brilliance. Aguero’s first-two strikes were breath-taking, in particular, the second after great work from Kevin de Bruyne in the build-up. He completed his hat-trick from the spot. Standard.
Watford 2017
Watford were the next team to feel the wrath of Aguero, who was unplayable at times in this 6-0 win at Vicarage Road. The first two goals were nothing to shout from the rooftops about, but his third was truly magnificent. Picking up the ball just inside the Watford half, Aguero weaved through a sea of Hornets’ defenders before coolly slotting past Heurelho Gomes.
Newcastle United 2018
The Magpies were on the receiving end of Aguero once more in 2018, but the Argentine settled for just a standard three goals on this occasion. His perfect hat-trick wasn’t the prettiest of trebles witnessed in the Premier League era, but it still counted nonetheless. The pick of the goals was Aguero’s third, after being brilliantly teed up by Leroy Sane.
Leicester City 2018
Aguero was in a rich vein of form coming into this game and boy, didn’t Leicester City just know it. The Argentine was simply lethal in this demolition job, scoring four goals in a resounding 5-1 victory at the Etihad. The first two goals were fairly straight-forward, but his third and fourth were much more Aguero-esque. The pick was an audacious chip over Kasper Schmeichel, after the Dane made a hash of throwing the ball out.
Huddersfield Town 2018
Not only did City romp to the Premier League title in record-breaking fashion, Aguero quietly went about picking up his third hat-trick of the season. It was perhaps Aguero’s easiest treble so far after Terriers goalkeeper Ben Hamer dropped two clangers to allow Aguero in but his third was much better. Benjamin Mendy provided a near-post cross where Aguero finished with a deft touch.
Arsenal 2019
For the second time in a week, Aguero scored inside the game’s very first minute and Arsenal had very little chance once that had happened. Although Laurent Koscielny did pull the Gunners level, Aguero restored parity just before half-time. His hat-trick goal was very debatable after he appeared to knock the ball in with his flaying arm whilst sliding to meet a cross. After the game, Aguero ‘fessed up that it did hit his hand but in the grand scheme of things, it won’t tarnish what is an enviable record.
Chelsea 2019
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri’s job is somewhat on the line at the moment, and Aguero’s record-equalling treble wouldn’t have done the Italian any favors whatsoever. Aguero’s first was stunning, curling home from all of 30 yards just moments after missing a sitter. His second came via a poor Ross Barkley back-header which Aguero managed to steer home before a penalty confirmed his 11th Premier League hat-trick. What. A. Player.
