Confederation Cup: Al Masry 2-0 Cot d’Or | Pyramids 3-0 Young Africans
Pyramids 3-0 Young Africans
Pyramids FC reached the Confederation Cup group stage after claiming a 3-0 win over Young Africans of Tanzania in the second leg of the competition’s play-off at the Air Defence Stadium in Cairo on Sunday.
The Egyptian side, who won the first-leg 2-1 in Dar es Salaam two weeks ago, went through with a 5-1 aggregate win.
Burkinabe midfielder Eric Traore opened the scoring in the 27th minute, slotting home on the rebound after Abdallah El-Said’s free-kick was parried by the keeper into his path.
Forward Mohamed Farouk doubled the lead ten minutes from time after stabbing home a corner from El-Said, who turned scorer deep in stoppage time to crown his superb display and complete the rout.
The draw for the group stage of Africa’s secondary club competition will be held on 10 November.
Al Masry 2-0 Cot d’Or
Ahmed Gomaa scored either side of the interval to lead Masry to a 2-0 victory against Cot d’Or of Seychelles and send them to the Confederation Cup group stage on Sunday.
It was an easy ride for the Port Said-based side, who had a comfortable 4-0 first-leg advantage.
The big scoreline in the first leg allowed coach Ihab Galal to reshuffle his team in order to give some action to his players.
Gomaa headed home in the 21st minute from close range as he met a precise cross from Farid Shawky.
Masry totally dominated the game in terms of possession and Palestinian striker Mahmoud Wadi was denied twice by the woodwork.
But it was Gomaa who netted again in the 78th minute as he fired home on the rebound following a shot from Amr Moussa.
The group stage draw will be held on 10 November.
