Egypt will bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup

With more than 5,000 years of culture and tradition, as well as its magnificent sports enthusiasm, Egypt with its capital Cairo envisages hosting major sport events in the course of a medium to long term economic development strategy.

Egypt is planning to bid to host the 2030 World Cup, EFA President Hany Abou Rida said on Monday.

“Egypt is planning on hosting global major sporting competitions, including the 2030 World Cup and the 2032 Olympics Games.”

Worth mentioning that 2030 World Cup is expected to feature 48 teams rather than the current 32 tournament system.

Egypt’s stadiums could host 2030 World Cup matches:

Egypt is known for its tremendous atmosphere and its very large capacity stadiums. This was never more evident than during the 2006 & 2019 African Cup of Nations, which was held in Egypt.

Egypt already owns one of the world’s top 10 biggest football stadiums. The Borg El Arab Stadium, with its 86,000 seating capacity is the second-largest football stadium in Africa.

The stadium was opened in 2007 and had been commissioned in an unsuccessful bid to host the 2010 World Cup by the Egyptian FA, and is now used as the home ground for the Egyptian national football team and as a venue for Egyptian cup finals. A unique feature of the stadium is that it was built and designed by the Egyptian Armed Forces Corps of Engineers.

Also Cairo’s International multi-use stadium has an all-seated capacity of 75,000. It is the Arab World’s second-largest (after Borg El Arab Stadium with an all-seated capacity of 86,000).

Because of the previous seating layout, Cairo International Stadium was able to host over 120,000 fans for the 1986 African Cup of Nations Final match between Egypt and Cameroon. Behind the enormous crowd, hosts Egypt defeated Cameroon.

It is the foremost Olympic-standard facility befitting the role of Cairo, Egypt as the center of events in the region. It was completed in 1960. The architect of the stadium is German Werner March, who had built from 1934 to 1936 the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.

The two early bids to host the Centennial World Cup have already been proposed by England and jointly by Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, who hosted the inaugural World Cup in 1930.

Uruguay–Argentina bid was officially confirmed on 29 July 2017 before Paraguay was confirmed as the third host on 4 October 2017. Chile and Peru are also rumored to be interested in hosting.

Morocco also have made public their intention to make a bid for 2030, after losing out to the US, Mexico and Canada for the 2026 tournament, the decision for which was announced earlier this year.

Also on 2nd of July, recent news about the possibility that Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco will submit a joint bid for the 2030 World Cup finals. Algeria’s Minister for Youth and Sport announced that his country was looking into making a joint bid for the 2030 World Cup along with neighbor countries Tunisia and Morocco.
