On Thursday, the Cairo giants claimed their second bronze medal in the FIFA Club World Cup after beating Palmeiras in penalty kicks but scored only one goal in three games in the prestigious tournament.

Ahly will lose the services of several key players when they take on Al-Merrikh of Sudan in the CAF Champions League after talented winger Taher Mohamed Taher joined the injured players’ list on Monday.

“Medical scans have shown that Taher suffers from muscle problems and he will be out of action for a week,” Ahly doctor Ahmed Abu-Abla told a television program.

The 23-year-old winger played an influential role with Ahly in the FIFA Club World Cup, helping the Reds claim the bronze medal of the prestigious tournament.

The former Arab Contractors star was included in the starting lineups of Ahly’s three games in the FIFA Club World Cup against Al-Duhail, Bayern Munich, and Palmeiras — where he sustained the injury.

Taher, who had a previous experience with French team Le Havre in 2016, completed his move to Egypt’s most successful club — Ahly — last October, coming from Arab Contractors on a five-year deal.

The Cairo giants will have to do without left-back Ali Maaloul, who missed the match with Palmeiras because of a muscle injury; alongside injured striker Salah Mohsen.

The Reds Devils’ talented winger Walid Soliman has been out of commission throughout the FIFA Club’s World Cup last week and will also have to continue on the sidelines of this game.
