Egypt’s newly appointed coach Hossam El-Badry will be keen to make a good impression with the Pharaohs when they face Botswana on Monday.
The Pharaohs will face Botswana at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium on Monday as both sides prepare for next month’s Nations Cup qualifiers.
Egypt will start their campaign in the Nations Cup qualifiers on 14 November when they host Kenya before facing Comoros in an away game four days later.
Hossam El-Badry, who took over last month following the sacking of Mexican Javier Aguirre, has called up 23 players for this friendly, including four foreign-based players.
The four players are Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan (Aston Villa), Ahmed ‘Kouka’ Hassan (SC Braga), Mohamed Elneny (Besiktas) and Ahmed Hegazi (West Bromwich).
The 59-year-old coach dropped Liverpool’s star Mohamed Salah from his list, opting to give his ace a chance to take a rest.
He also explained his decision to drop the Egypt U23 duo Ramadan Sobhi and Moustafa Mohamed, saying he wishes to let the two players focus on the U23 team, which is also preparing for the Olympics qualifiers scheduled on November.
“The Botswana friendly is important as we are keen to test the players before the start of the Nations Cup qualifiers,” Hossam El-Badry told reporters.
“The coming period needs a lot of work as we are looking for success.
“All Egyptians have been frustrated with the Pharaohs’ previous results in the Nations Cup, but our target is to make the Egyptians proud of their national team.”
The former Ahly coach, who helped Ahly win four Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy in 2012, is hoping to realise similar success with the Egyptian national team.
” I am so proud to be named Pharaohs’ coach and I will do my best to help the team win on all fronts,” El-Badry concluded.
