Venue: Lusail Stadium

Egyptian champions Zamalek will face Saudi Champions Al-Hilal in the Lusail Super Cup in Qatar.

This version of the Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup, which has been held three times previously in 2001, 2003 and 2018, and won twice by Zamalek, will take place in Qatar as a rehearsal for the World Cup games under the name of Lusail Super Cup.

The game will be played in the 80,000 seat Lusail stadium, which is set to host the World Cup final on 18 December.

Almost three weeks after winning their 14th Egyptian league title, Zamalek will be looking to add another trophy at the expense of the Saudi club.

However, the mission will not be easy for the team, who will face a very tough opponent.

“I know that we will face a very tough opponent,” Zamalek coach Jesualdo Ferreira told the pre-match news conference on Thursday.

“The last season was very long and we [have only just finished it]. We are yet to prepare our team for the new season but I promise that my team will produce a strong performance in the game”

The Portuguese coach stressed that is unlikely that the team’s new signings will participate in the game.

Zamalek signed Moroccan midfielder Zakaria El-Wardi and Senegalese winger Ibrahima Ndiaye during this summer transfer window.

“We will play the game with the team that won the domestic league and new players are yet to have a role with team,” Ferreira added

On the other hand the Saudi giants will be eager to restore some regional pride after being outclassed 4-0 against Zamalek’s bitter Cairo rivals Ahly in the FIFA Club World Cup last February in Abu Dhabi in a game that saw the dismissal of two Hilal players in the first 30 minutes.

Al-Hilal has changed in many ways after Argentinean coach Ramon Diaz took charge of the team just days after the match against Ahly.

The club also made a perfect start in the Saudi league with three victories in three games, scoring five goals with none conceded.

The team have many big stars with the likes of Nigerian international striker Odion Ighalo, Malian striker Moussa Marega, international winger Salem Al-Dawsari and brazilian midfielder Matheus Pereira.

“We will play an important game for us and we are ready to present our real performance,” Al-Hilal coach Ramon Diaz told the pre-match news conference on Thursday.

“I have a good knowledge of Zamalek. They are a good team and we are ready for the game.”

“This game will be different than that against Ahly when we played with nine players after the dismissal of two players.”

“I am very proud to work with a team like Al-Hilal who have many international players. We are ready to win the game,” he concluded.
