Transfer Rumors: Is Cristiano Ronaldo Returning to the Old Trafford?

The English Premier League has recently concluded with Manchester City winning this season. Now that the matches are done, there is no rest for football fans to be wondering what will happen next to their favorite teams and athletes. The rumor mill has started and there are already talks about possible transfers for the next season. So far, the biggest transfer rumor is Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United.

Well, Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford has been a rumor for a while now. This has been something that people would talk about every now and then since he left Manchester United 12 years ago to transfer to Real Madrid. Since then, many fans have been wishing to see his name under United when they go to an online sportsbook to place their bets.

Eventually, fans just didn’t mind Ronaldo leaving United as he was able to do so much since then. Still, many have been wishfully thinking he would return. There are also some who just don’t really mind whatever happens anymore. However, the rumor of him returning is strong these days.

According to reports, the football superstar is serious about returning to United. It makes this move more possible since it’s no secret that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on board with turning this plan into reality. Ole and Cristiano are known to have a good relationship.

Solskjaer is said to won’t even hesitate to sanction the re-signing of Ronaldo if the franchise’s financials stack up. This is even if signing him up will mean that he will be the highest earner in the club despite his age. Currently, Keeper David de Gea holds this title but there are rumors that the current Keeper may have to be placed on the loan.

There are already reports that Solskjaer has already outlined his plans for Ronaldo’s come back to United. He has also assured the player that he will be someone important once he rejoins the squad.

There are reports that Juventus is willing to accept an amount of around 21.5 million pounds to sell Ronaldo and it seems like Manchester United is willing to pay the price.

Now, even if Juventus was able to secure a spot for the upcoming Championship Football League, it was quite odd that Ronaldo wasn’t part of the 4-1 victory. No injury was reported from the team’s camp and with that, it is likely that the football star is really unhappy with the current direction of the club under Andrea Pirlo.

The Athletic reported that there are agents who are connected to Juventus that are insisting that Ronaldo could genuinely leave the club by summer after a frustrating spell in Turin. According to them, the United franchise is already monitoring the situation.

Why He Left the Old Trafford In the First Place

It was in 2009 when Ronaldo left Manchester United for Los Blancos. According to his interview with Rio Ferdinand on Nike’s YouTube channel, he just thought or what was in his mind during that time is that he wanted to go to Los Blancos to show his level and show that he is a different player.

He said, “…and that’s what I did. I arrived and I had a fantastic first season and then I have improved every season.”

It’s true that he did as he was able to net at least 40 goals every season in all tournaments since then. He was able to surpass Raul’s tally of 323 in less than half the number of matches. All in all, he was able to score 450 goals in 438 matches. This made him Los Blancos’ greatest forward ever.

Ronaldo Has Always Been Open About This Option

Even if Ronaldo was able to prove a lot after his take-off from Old Trafford, he always spoke fondly of the team. Just around a year after he left, he already talked about possibly returning to United.

He spoke to the News of the World in February 2010 and said, “…I miss playing for Manchester United. I played there for six years and that’s a long time. I am still interested in watching Manchester United and, you never know, maybe in the future I could return to play there.

It’s always possible. I want to fulfill my contract here but, in the future, only God knows. I will not say I am not happy here at Real Madrid. am really happy and everyone knows this is my club but, of course, I miss Manchester United, the boss, the players, because I left family there.”

In an interview with MUTV in August 2014, he also spoke about how the club was basically his second family. He said, “It was one of my favorite clubs, Manchester [United]. Everyone knows that whenever I speak about Real Madrid, I should speak about Manchester United, I loved it there.

“Some players I am still in contact with because when I was there, I created a good relationship with everybody, not just the players, all the staff around. And it was like my second family there too, so I’ll not forget that the people treat me well. I’ll not forget.

“I love Manchester, to be back, I never know, you never know. I never close doors. Of course, I’m happy at Real Madrid, it’s my home, it’s my club but Manchester treat me unbelievable so we never know,” he added.

Over the years, Ronaldo has always talked fondly of Manchester United that too many, it was just really about waiting for the right time for him to return. Will this be the season that he’ll finally reunite with the Red Devils? We’ll just have to wait for now.
