Four-time African champions Esperance of Tunisia entertain Egyptian giants and nine-time record African champions Al Ahly in the 2020-21 CAF Champions League semifinal first leg.
In the first round, Esperance defeated Ahly Benghazi (Libya) 3-2 on aggregate.
They were drawn in Group D with Zamalek (Egypt), MC Alger (Algeria) and Teungueth (Senegal). Esperance finished the group on top with 11 points having won three games, drawn two and lost one.
In the quarterfinals, Esperance defeated Algeria’s CR Belouizdad on a shootout after a 2-2 aggregate draw.
Al Ahly
In the first round, Al Ahly defeated AS Sonidep (Niger) 5-0 on aggregate.
They were drawn in Group A with Simba (Tanzania), AS Vita (DR Congo) and El Merriekh (Sudan).

In the quarterfinals, AL Ahly defeated South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 on aggregate.
Ahly have doubts over the fitness of key playmaker Magdi Afsha, who picked up an ankle injury in the team’s 2-0 victory over Morocco’s RS Berkane in the African Super Cup last month.
The team could also make do without their two right-backs, with Mohamed Hani ruled out due to injury and his understudy, Ahmed Ramadan, suffering a knock ahead of the match.
“We have many players who can replace Afsha but I hope to have him fit for tomorrow’s game. He will have a medical check-up tomorrow to decide if he is available for the game or not,” Mosimane said.
CAF has approved the attendance of 5000 supporters for the matches Esperance (Tunisia) v Al Ahly (Egypt), and Wydad (Morocco) v Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa).
CAF has stressed that all medical precautions should be followed at all times in respect to CAF Covid-19 health protocols.
