Press conference

Pitso Mosimane (Coach, Al Ahly)

It is an opportunity for Al Ahly to win our 10th CAF Champions League title and make history. It’s also an opportunity for the players and coaching staff to write their own history. It’s an honor to play in a Champions League final.

We have worked very hard to be here. It’s never easy but we think we can win. We respect our opponents but we have confidence in ourselves.

We fear no one but it’s about respect and reality. Kaizer Chiefs is a good team in their own way, and this way helped them all the way to the final. They are strong on counterattacks and set pieces, and they have some intelligent players. If you want to win you have to respect your opponents.

The system that makes you win is always a good system. We will go the way that helped us to win the trophy last year and brought us to this final. I’m not worried about the way Kaizer Chiefs play, but I’m aware of it.

As a coach, I have always had pressure. No coach for Al Ahly can have rest and has his comfort zone. Coaches should enjoy the pressure and strive with it.

Mohamed Elshenawy (Captain, Al Ahly)

It is going to be a very tough game. We would have liked to have our supporters behind us.

Kaizer Chiefs is a good and organized team. We are ready to face them and hope to have a good game.

All Ahly players just think of winning. We follow each other in that legacy and we always play each game and every competition to win. In the FIFA Club World Cup last February, we told ourselves we want to be back here again.

This final is very important and we have the ambition to win it once again. We want to make our supporters happy as we always do.

Press conference

Stuart Baxter (Coach, Kaizer Chiefs)

I knew the club’s situation well when I agreed to come back. I have been working with the players for some time, but being back on the bench is different. Having to watch the team from the stands was difficult but now I’m back and happy to be on the bench.

We have made many surprises on the road to the final, but can we have one more? We will see.

Pitso Mosimane (Al Ahly coach) has a very good history in the continent. I respect him and we faced each other before. On the night, past experiences will not affect the game. Each game has its own scenarios.

Al Ahly were expected to be here, we were not. We are the underdogs for most people, but in football you should believe, I have great respect for Al Ahly but we believe we can get a good result.

Bernard Parker (Captain, Kaizer Chiefs)

This is every player’s dream to play at such level. As a team, we have worked very hard to reach this final. We deserve to be here.

All the players are happy, excited, and looking forward to this match. We have a good mix of players, young and experienced. The young ones are excited to be a part of this team. We have a good spirit and this has affected our performance so far. It’s time now to perform once again.

We are in a CAF final after 20 years. Every player knows the club’s history and what has gone through the years.

We are in a position to write history and we are aware of that. We had a lot of support from everyone and we can’t wait for the game to start. With our preparations, we are stronger than any time before in the competition. We are going to give everything for 90 minutes to write history.

Ahly target a second consecutive Champions League title and a record-extending 10th accolade as they meet South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs in the final on Saturday, make sure to follow us and watch the game live right here on nilesports.com
