Youtuber Jake Paul continues his boxing career with a professional bout against former UFC Champion Tyron Woodley, looking to continue his unbeaten streak.
The 24-year-old, known mostly for his Youtube vlogging series as well as a brief stint on the Disney Channel, has had three professional fights, although none against an opponent with a record like Woodley. The American is approaching the twilight of his fighting career but is still capable of winning comfortably in Ohio.
While the Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley odds dominates the betting markets, there is a very capable undercard to build up the hype for the main event. Read on as we predict how each fight could go.
Tommy Fury vs Anthony Taylor
The evening kicks off with a potential future opponent for Paul in Tommy Fury. The youngster is still unbeaten professionally, although the list of fighters he has beaten has led to questions being asked of his credibility. He and Paul exchanged words via social media but Fury’s focus for the night is on Anthony Taylor. The American is a former UFC fighter who is considerably older than his Manchester opponent. The veteran is vastly experienced in the octagon and despite being slightly shorter we believe his experience will be too much for Fury to deal with. Fury has barely spent any of his career on the back foot and with his chin yet to be truly tested, it could come as a reality check if he is to get caught with some big shots.
Winner: Taylor
Daniel Duboi vs Juiseppe Cusumano
This card has managed to draw in some big names in the world of boxing as well as just celebrities. Dubois last knocked out Bogdan Dinu in his most recent fight but comes into this one against a fighter with a lot of bouts under his belt — Juiseppe Cusumano. The American is unbeaten and has three wins by way of knockout. This looks to be the most even fight on the card with two tall powerful heavyweights going at it. We think the Brit, despite spending less time as a professional, will just edge it.
Winner: Dubois
Amanda Serrano v Yamileth Mercado – for WBC, WBO, and IBO World Featherweight titles
The card has done a good job of promoting the women’s game, with Amanda Serrano taking on Mexican Yamileth Mercado in the penultimate fight before the main event. While Serrano believes this fight is simply a stepping stone for a potential match-up with Katie Taylor, Mercado still needs to be the number one priority. She enters the favorite, but any kind of complacency could lead to an upset against a competent opponent. Regardless, we think Serrano will have too much in store for the Mexican.
Winner: Serrano
Main event: Jake Paul v Tyron Woodley
Regardless of people’s opinions on this fight, and whether it is tarnishing the reputation of traditional boxing, the streaming figures speak for themselves. Paul may have a win against an MMA fighter in Ben Askren, but his other opponents pale in comparison to Woodley. The obnoxious Youtuber goes into this one with the support of his cult-like online following, but in terms of pure fighting ability, he will simply be outclassed by the former Welterweight champion.
Winner: Woodley
