Mostafa Mohamed on Target twice for Galatasaray

Egypt striker Mostafa Mohamed ended a lengthy goal drought by scoring twice, including a late strike, as Galatasaray snatched a last-gasp 3-2 victory over Rizespor in the Turkish league on Saturday.

Mohamed opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute, converting a low cross from close range to open his account this season.

Finnish striker Joel Pohjanpalo scored twice to overturn the deficit but Mohamed restored parity with 15 minutes remaining.

He controlled a poor defensive clearance in the area on his knee before rifling a powerful volley that struck the keeper’s hands and went in.

Romanian attacking midfielder Olimpiu Morutan gave Galatasaray all three points with a goal 11 minutes into a lengthy stoppage time.

Mohamed, who is on loan from Cairo club Zamalek until the end of the season, has not scored for 13 straight games before finally finding the net against Rizespor.

His previous goal came in a 4-1 victory over Denizlispor in the Turkish league last May when he netted twice.

The 23-year-old can now breathe a sigh of relief after reports suggested that he was surplus to requirements at Galatasaray, with coach Fatih Terim publicly crticising him for a dip in form more than once.

Galatasaray have an option to turn Mohamed’s loan into a permanent deal if they activate a $4 million option by December.
