What states the law on real-life betting in India?

Betting is a state subject and only states in India are entitled to create laws for Betting activities within their respective states. The Public Betting Act of 1867 is a central law that prohibits running or being in charge of a public gaming house.

Basic rules of cricket

Below we provide crucial rules of cricket needed to know if you are a newcomer to the betting world. Please, see below.

  • Cricket is a game played with a bat and ball on a large field, known as a ground, between two teams of 11 players each.
  • The object of the game is to score runs when at bat and to put out or dismiss, the opposing batsmen when in the field. The cricket rules displayed on this page here are for the traditional form of cricket which is called “Test Cricket”.
  • Two umpires are in place on the playing field while there is also a third umpire off the field who is in charge of video decisions. This is where the call is too close for the on-field umpires and they refer it to the third umpire who reviews slow-motion video replays to make a decision.
  • Runs: If the batsman runs from one end to the other end of the pitch after hitting the ball with his bat, then he gets 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…. runs depending on how much time he does so.
  • Boundaries: If the ball after getting hit by a batsman crosses the circumference of the field, then it’s a boundary (4 or 6). If the ball crosses directly without touching the ground, then it’s 6 otherwise it is 4.
  • Extra runs Leg byes if a run is made after the ball touches any part of the batsman other than the bat. Byes if the run is made without the ball being touched to any part of the batsman. Wide ball (1 run+0 ball) if the ball passes through the batsman from a long distance. No ball (1 run+0 ball+next ball free hit) if either the bowler’s feet crosses the bowling crease line or the ball goes directly over the batsman’s waist or a bowler bowls 3 or more bouncers in an over. Free hit means the batsman can only be dismissed by running out. Penalty (5 runs) if the ball is stopped by something other than the fielders.
  • Wickets: Either the ball hits the stumps. Or the ball is caught by any fielder after getting hit by the batsman and before touching the ground. Or the ball hits the batsman’s leg which is in the line of the stumps. Or the ball getting hit to the stumps when the batsman is out of the crease (stump or run out). Or the batsman interrupts the ball unreasonably.

Cricket in India

Below we discovered some tiny cases which may help you while placing your bet in cricket.

  • If the game is progressing slowly or affected by bad weather, there might not be enough time for both teams to play full innings – remember that if the first team makes at least 200 runs more than the second team made (in a 5-day test match), then the first team has the option to make the second team bat again.
  • Remember about the possibility of declaration  – in this case, the batting team’s captain also has the right to forfeit their innings at any time.
  • Very few people know that a batsman can be given out by the umpires if he does not become ready to bat within 3 minutes after the previous batsman gets out.
  • Men vs Women: Then the weight and circumference of the ball are less in women’s cricket. Apart from that, there are no major differences.
  • New rules: An injured batsman cannot take a runner, in spite he has to leave the field with a tagline ‘retire hurt’ and can come back when recovered during the innings.
  • Also, the DRS system, in which the batsman or the fielding team’s captain can take a review maximum of 2 times if he is not satisfied with the umpire’s decision.
  • Follow on rules: It is applicable in test cricket. If the side batting in the second innings gets all out with a lesser score than the opponent, then the opponent can make them bat again at the same time if the lead is more than 200.
