Egypt reach World Handball Championship quarter-finals

Egypt fought back to draw with Slovenia 25-25 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2021 World Men’s Handball Championship.

The Slovenian team dominated the first half, securing a 12-8 lead before the Egyptian team fought back to lead the game with 25-24 before the Slovenian team netted the equalizer in the last second.

Dinamo Bucharest pivot Mamdouh Hashem, veteran player Ahmed El-Ahmar and promising youngster Ahmed Hesham stood out for Egypt.

Egyptian goalkeeper El Tayar made brilliant saves to prevent Slovenia’s players from netting against the Pharaohs.

Egypt are now on top of their main-round group with seven points, one ahead of Sweden who can reclaim top spot if they beat Russia later on tonight.

Should Sweden finish on top, runners-up Egypt will likely face Denmark in a mouthwatering quarter-final clash.
