Ahly cannot afford any further mistakes as they welcome Al-Hilal of Sudan for the last game of the CAF Champions League group stage at Cairo International Stadium tonight.
Time African champions Al Ahly, have to clinch a victory in the upcoming match to ensure their spot in the quarterfinals. Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa have already secured their position with 11 points.
Al-Hilal’s 1-1 draw with Sundowns earlier this month has given Ahly a chance to revive their hopes of progressing to the next round.
At present, Al Ahly occupies the third position in the group with seven points, trailing second-placed Al-Hilal by three points.
During the previous encounter, Ahly suffered a 1-0 defeat against the Sudanese side in Omdurman. Therefore, Ahly needs to secure a win with a more significant margin to progress to the next round, given their superior head-to-head record.
Approximately 50,000 Ahly supporters will be permitted to attend the match at Cairo International Stadium, and coach Marcel Koller anticipates that the team will leverage this support to their benefit.
After a week-long international break with their respective national teams, Ahly has welcomed back their international players.
