Ahly, having recently secured the Egypt Cup title, are now setting their sights on winning another trophy in the 2021/2022 Egyptian Super Cup in the UAE. They will be facing Pyramids FC in the upcoming match on Friday.

Pyramids FC will be participating in the Super Cup as the second-placed team in the 2022 Egyptian league. The original contenders, Zamalek, withdrew from the match due to significant disagreements with decisions made by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).

Meanwhile, Ahly, who holds an impressive 12 Super Cup titles, began their season with a victory in the 2020/2021 Super Cup, where they defeated Zamalek 2-0 in the UAE.

At present, Al Ahly sits atop the domestic league standings with 53 points, holding a four-point lead over second-place Future FC, despite having played four matches fewer than them.

Pyramids FC, who were granted a last-minute invitation to the cup, are eager to overcome two recent setbacks: a defeat in their last encounter with Ahly during the Egypt Cup in April and their recent elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup by Marumo Gallants of South Africa.

If Pyramids FC manages to secure a victory, it would mark their first-ever title, a significant accomplishment for a team that underwent rebranding in 2018 and made substantial investments in players and resources. With star players such as Ramadan Sobhi, Mostafa Fathi, and Moroccan midfielder Walid El-Karti, Pyramids FC has a promising chance to achieve their championship aspirations.

Nevertheless, they face a formidable opponent in Ahly, a team with a stellar reputation in the sport.

The Egyptian Super Cup will now be played in a new format with four teams participating over three games, according to a statement by the head of Presentation Sports Agency, the main sponsor of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).

The Egyptian Super Cup is traditionally played between the winner of the Egyptian Premier League and the winner of Egypt Cup.

“We held talks with our partners, Abu Dhabi Sports, to organize a new format for the Egyptian Super Cup starting from next season to spread the tournament’s value in the UAE,” Seif El-Waziry told Abu Dhabi Sports channel in the early hours of Friday.

“We were speaking about holding the Egyptian Super Cup with the participation of four teams to be played in three games, and there is a thought of playing an extra game to determine the third-place winner,” he added.

The new format of the Egyptian Super Cup will be played in one week, according to the Chairman of Presentation Sports Agency.
