Egypt’s national football team will have the services of Liverpool’s star winger, Mohamed Salah, for their friendly match against Tunisia Tonight. The match will be held at Air Defence Stadium, and the team will be in closed training camps.
Egypt’s coach, Rui Vitoria, rested Mohamed Salah during the team’s 1-0 win over Ethiopia in the final qualifier of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The decision was made since the team had already secured a spot in the finals.
Egypt secured their place in the finals, scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire in January 2024, by finishing on top of Group D in the qualifiers with 15 points.
Tunisia also advanced to the prestigious continental tournament by topping Group J with 13 points.
“The Tunisia game is of great importance to us,” Vitoria emphasized during a press conference ahead of the Ethiopia game.
Egypt’s team will be without four key players from Al Ahly: Mohamed El-Shennawy, Mohamed Abdel-Moneim, Mohamed Hany, and Marwan Attia. They departed the national camp following the Ethiopia match to rejoin Al Ahly’s training camp in preparation for the upcoming African Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, scheduled for next Friday.
The upcoming match serves as part of the Pharaohs’ preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations next year.
Egypt and Tunisia have squared off 33 times in a combination of official and friendly matches.
Out of these encounters, the Pharaohs have clinched victory on 11 occasions, while Tunisia has celebrated triumph 15 times. The remaining eight matches concluded with a draw. In terms of goals, Tunisia has netted 38, while Egypt has recorded 32 goals.
