Portuguese Coach Rui Vitoria Summons Salah and Key Foreign-Based Players for Egypt’s National Squad

Egypt’s national squad is gearing up for the World Cup 2026 African qualifiers and the 2023 African Cup of Nations finals, with notable foreign-based players like Eintracht Frankfurt winger Omar Marmoush, Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny, and Trabzonspor’s winger Mahmoud “Trezeguet” Hassan rejoining the team after recovering from their injuries. Marmoush is expected to join the camp today.

Mohamed Salah was strategically rested during the September 8th match against Ethiopia, the final game of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, in order to conserve his energy for the busy schedule. He later rejoined the squad for a friendly match on September 12th, which Egypt lost 3-1 to Tunisia.

The Pharaohs initiated their camp on Monday, commencing with light training sessions in preparation for their upcoming friendlies against Zambia on October 12th and Algeria on October 16th. The camp is scheduled to run until October 17th.

Egypt’s Journey in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers Begins with Djibouti Clash on November 13th, Followed by Sierra Leone on November 18th.

Having dominated Group D in the qualifiers with an impressive 15 points from six games, alongside Guinea in the second position, the seven-time African champions have already secured their spot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, slated to commence on January 13, 2024.
