Egypt Unveils Final AFCON Squad with Shocking Star Left out!

Rui Vitoria, the coach of Egypt’s national team, unveiled the definitive roster for the much-anticipated Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.

Rui Vitoria excluding FIFA Club WC 3rd place winner & Egyptian Super Cup Champion Hussien El Shahat from the selection due to his recent injury.

Set to unfold in Cote d’Ivoire between January 13 and February 11, 2024, Egypt’s AFCON journey will kick off on January 14 against Mozambique.

Egypt, with an impressive seven Africa Cup of Nations titles, is set to encounter Ghana in the second round of Group B matches on January 18, concluding the group stage with a game against Cape Verde on January 22.

Notably absent from Vitoria’s selected squad are wingers Abdallah El-Saied and Ramadan Sobhi from Pyramids FC, as well as Ahly’s talented winger Hussien El Shahat (due to injury), midfielder Mohamed ‘Afsha’ Magdi, Zamalek’s defender Mahmoud ‘El-Wensh’ Hamdi, and Khaleej FC’s striker Mohamed Sherif.

However, the squad sees the return of Turkish Pendikspor forward Ahmed Hassan Kouka.

Egypt’s FULL squad for AFCON 2023:

Goalkeepers: Mohamed El-Shennawy (Ahly), Mohamed Sobhi (Zamalek), Ahmed El-Shennawy (Pyramids FC), Mohamed Abu Gabal (NBE Club).

Defenders: Ahmed Hegazi (Ittihad Jeddah- Saudi Arabia), Mohamed Abdelmonem, Mohamed Hani (Ahly), Ali Gabr, Osama Galal, Ahmed Sami, Mohamed Hamdi (Pyramids FC), Omar Kamal (Modern Future FC) and Ahmed Fattouh (Zamalek).

Midfielders: Emam Ashour, Ahmed Nabil Koka, Marwan Attia (Ahly), Hamdi Fathi (Al-Wakrah SC – Qatar), Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal – England), Ahmed “Zizo” Sayed (Zamalek) and Mahmoud Hamada (Masry).

Strikers: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool – England), Mostafa Fathi (Pyramids FC), Omar Marmoush (Eintracht Frankfurt – Germany), Trezeguet” (Trabzonspor – Turkey), Mostafa Mohamed (FC Nantes – France), Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’ Abdel-Moneim (Ahly) and Ahmed ‘Kouka’ Hassan (Pendikspor – Turkey).
