The goal that doubled Liverpool’s lead after Alexis Mac Allister’s 11th-minute strike was vintage Salah! Cutting in from the right, he unleashed a trademark curler into the top left corner, leaving Bologna’s Lukasz Skorupski with no chance.
With that beauty, Salah has now become the first player in Liverpool’s history to score in five consecutive home games in the Champions League.
Last season, he was on fire at Anfield, finding the net against Ajax, Rangers, Napoli, and Real Madrid – the very side that would eventually knock the Reds out of the competition.
And with his strike against Bologna, Salah makes it a famous five.
He surpasses club legend Steven Gerrard, who scored in four consecutive home games twice—back in 2008 and 2009.
It’s a feat far tougher than it seems. Even the great Lionel Messi couldn’t manage it in his 163 Champions League appearances for Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite his 129 goals and four Champions League titles (2006, 2009, 2011, and 2015), Messi never quite hit five in a row. He managed four consecutive home goals three times—twice with Barcelona (2017 and 2020) and once across his stints with Barça and Paris Saint-Germain (2021).
His longtime rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, however, holds the edge with an impressive streak of scoring in seven consecutive home games, which came to an end in 2018.
