Egyptian striker Mostafa Mohamed secured a vital 2-1 victory for Nantes against Reims in French Ligue 1 on Sunday.
Despite facing recent criticism from Nantes’ coach Antoine Kombouaré, Egyptian forward Mostafa Mohamed once again proved decisive, netting the winning goal in the 70th minute before being substituted just two minutes later.
The towering striker capitalized on a precise low cross from Matthis Abline, firing a powerful shot into the net to secure the victory.
Nantes had initially taken the lead through Abline in the 42nd minute, but a moment of misfortune just before halftime saw defender Jean Castelletto inadvertently score an own goal, sending the teams into the break level.
Nantes currently sits 14th in the Ligue 1 table with 21 points, just three clear of the relegation zone.
Since joining on loan from Galatasaray in the summer of 2022, the 27-year-old Mostafa Mohamed has experienced a turbulent spell at the club, managing only four goals across all competitions this season.
However, he showed signs of resurgence last week, coming off the bench to net a crucial equalizer in Nantes’ 1-1 draw against Lyon—his first goal since their 3-1 victory over Montpellier in late August.
With these recent performances, Mohamed could be edging his way back into a key role within the squad.
